The region Island of Ré
At 3km
of La Rochelle, the Island of Ré, has a high rate of sunshine as the Côte d’Azur
one’s and a surrounding unique in France.
The Island of Ré is small (32 kms long and 5 kms wide, with less than 100 m
wide at the Martray place) but it has a lot of
" charme "
and character. Connected to the continent since May 1988 by a magnificent
bridge, the Island of Ré is near la Rochelle.
The Island of Ré has nine villages from side to side of the coast. Each village
as it’s character but it is very plaisant to go along
the narrow alleys ; The white walls and the green windows are
characteristic as the holly-hock.
You can easilly visit the Island with a byke discovering the different
landscapes, the vineyards.
The saltmarsh or the ports and sandy beaches. The high rate of sunshine and the
light of the Island of Ré bring many painters.
One of the St Martin charmes, capital city of the Island, is the small donkeys
that browse around the ramparts and make children delight.
The whole Island of Ré is classified " protected site ". We
propose you some marks to make a first visit easier or to confirm a stay site.
The bridge, elegant work in arc of circle, 3km long, can be easilly reached from
La Rochelle, direction La Pallice. Before taking
the bridge you can stop on the left side to enjoy the vieuw.
If you don’t have bykes, it is possible to hire them all along the Island. To
have some hire informations you can consult cyclo-surf.
St Clément des Baleines is situated near the Phare of Baleines on the island
extremity.
